Portrait Series : Mikaela Hållén
Stockholm based Fashion editor and stylist Mikaela Hållén sits down with us for a quick Q&A to discuss Sweden, style and lets us in on a unexpected beauty secret
What's your day job?
I'm a Stockholm based fashion stylist and the Fashion Editor at STYLEBY Magazine.
The first thing you miss about Stockholm when you’re away is…
It’s the little things that come to mind - barbecues on my terrace, long walks by the canal, Sunday brunch with my family and spontaneous dinners at Café Nizza and Racamaca - two intimate bars located in Södermalm.
What is Stockholms best-kept secret?
The islands of the Stockholm archipelago. I always go sailing with my family during summer, visiting uninhabited islands every day.
What five things do you always carry with you?
I'm not a fan of carrying around things and therefore I'm very thankful for the mini-bag trend. I have a small bag that fits the most important things: lip balm, keys, a face mist, my phone and a card holder.
What do you love most about being a stylist?
Being a part of a team and meeting new people.
Can you describe your personal style in a few words?
My style is minimalistic, with a twist.
What is the method to your styling process?
It depends on the project but I love to create mood boards to guide me throughout the process. My favorite part is when ideas become reality on set, together with the team.
Best beauty secret you've ever received?
The secret behind soap brows! Instead of using a brow gel, you use a bar of organic soap and a toothbrush to shape and set your brows in place - for hours. Another thing that I didn't know about until recently is that you should always apply oils to damp skin. Nowadays I always use my body oil while still standing in the shower, and thereafter I blot dry with a towel.
If you could abolish one piece of modern technology, what would it be and why?
My tv - I think I’d be better off without it (even though I love it very much).
Current disposition:
Thankful.
