“My newer favorite tradition is being honored with making the family gumbo. Food means a lot to me, it’s the way I show my love. People in my family can throw down in the kitchen. Ever since I can remember my Aunt Diane would make a huge gumbo pot for Christmas dinner. I would dream about this gumbo all year long and when I was in high school I asked her to teach me how to make it because Gumbo = life. I watched her make it three different times because she never measured anything, it was all done by eye and soul. 4 years ago I had the opportunity to cook the gumbo for my entire family. It was terrifying because those are huge shoes to fill, I come from the kind of family that will not lie to you to spare your feelings, they roast you for fun (always out of love). I’m proud to report that my gumbo is family approved, not a drop is leftover and nothing makes me happier. “
